Bhutan, the land of the peaceful thunder dragon is known to the world by several names such as the ‘the Last Shangri-La’ or ‘the Last Place on the Roof of the World.’ Though the original name from the time of Marco Polo was ‘Bootan,’ the natives prefer to call their country ‘Druk Yul,’ or the Land of the Peaceful Thunder Dragon. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, Bhutan offers spectacular mountain views, immense scenic beauty and a unique culture and lifestyle.

This beautiful valley, where nature and man conjured to create their dearest image, is home to some of Bhutan's oldest temples & monasteries - as well as its only airport. Paro is one of the most fertile valleys in the Kingdom, producing a bulk of the famous red rice from its terraced fields.
 
Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan, lies at an elevation of 2,300 meters in a valley traversed by the Wang - chu, also called as Thimphu River. Taschichho dzong, the main secretariat building, houses the throne rooms of the King and is the summer residence of central monk body.
 

7 Nights - 8 Days  Itinerary:

Day 1
Fly to Paro from Kathmandu./ Drive to Thimpu / tour briefing / overnight hotel.
  
Day 2
a.m.-Drive to Drukgyel Dzong, 18 kms.
On your return visit a typical Bhutanese farm and local temples. After lunch visit Ta-Dzong which houses the National Museum of Bhutan followed by a short walk to Paro Rimpung Dzong / evening at leisure / overnight hotel.

Day 3
a.m..Drive to Satsam Chorten / Two hour pony trek to Taksang cafeteria for lunch a short walk back to Satsam Chorten for the 2 hour drive to Thimphu / overnight hotel.
  
Day 4
Sightseeing to view the Memorial Chorten, National Library, Nuns Monastery, Changlimithang Monastery, Indigenous Hospital. lunch there / after lunch, at leisure /  evening a visit to the
Tashichdzong (Thimphu Dzong) / overnight hotel.
  
Day 5
3-hour drive to Punkha across the Dochula Pass for lunch / after lunch visit the Punkha Dzong. overnight hotel.
  
Day 6
In the morning, drive 3 hours to Gantay Gompa. a packed lunch will be served / after lunch drive back to Thimphu / overnight hotel.
  
Day 7
In the morning, a performance of the famous folk and mask dance performed by the Royal Dance Academy /  lunch at hotel / after lunch at leisure / overnight hotel.
  
Day 8
Early morning dive to Paro for your flight to Kathmandu /  transfer hotel.

 


6 Nights 7 Days Itinerary:

Day 01: Bangkok – Paro: After breakfast, transfer to airport and fly to Paro. Upon arrival meet assistance at the airport and drive to Thimphu (55 kilometers). In the evening visit walk around Thimphu city overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.

 

Day 02: Thimphu - Punakha (72 Kms, 3 hours drive). After the breakfast drive to Punakha2.3hours, The route takes you past Simtokha dzong but you turn left at the crossroads and as you ascend there is a good overview of the dzong. The pass lies at 1050ft/3100m, there are a hundred and eight chortens.  These were constructed as recently as 2004 and this is known as the Druk Wangyel chortens or chortens of the victory of the Druk Gyalpo, built by Queen Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. If the weather is clear you can seen the great Himalayan Speaks, afternoon short hike to Chime Lhakhang atop a small hillock. It is s a pleasant 3-40minute walk from the road head. Through cultivated fields and up a gentle slope. This lhakhang dates back to 1499 and was built by Lama Drukpa Kinley.  O/N Hotel

 

Day03: Punakha- Sightseeing: Full day Punakha/Wangdue sightseeing, visit the Punakha Dzong, the former winter capital and present administrative scat of the district. It is also the winter residence of the central monastic body. The Dzong (fortress) lies between two rivers, the Pochu and Mochu, uncaring male and female rivers. It was built in 1637 AD. Visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong, perched on a promontory 13 km away from Punakha. The Dzong was built in 1638 A.D. O/N. at Punakha.

 

Day04-Punakha- Thimphu. Drive back to Thimphu for 3hrs. Afternoon sightseeing at Thimphu visit National Memorial Chorten, Changankha lhakhang (oldest monastery from Thimphu Valley) visit National Memorial Chorten, Mini Zoo (National animal taken) The Institute for Zorig Chusum( The institute of 13 traditional arts and crafts. Evening free for shoping. O.N at Thimphu.

 

Day 05 Thimphu day Hike: Drive to end of Thimphu Valley, Hike to Cheri Monastery, and The monastery was built on this mountain in 1619. The covered bridge leading to monastery is new, but  it is built in traditional style with cantilevers and shingles. Evening drive to Paro. O/N at Paro.

 

Day 06: Paro Sightseeing: After breakfast a short drive takes us to Satsam Chorten, the trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then walk a short distance until we see, clearly and seemingly within reach, Taktsang monastery. The primary Lhakhang was built around Guru Rimpoche's meditation cave in 1684 by the Penlop of Paro, Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay, this incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan in 747 AD, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, said to be his favourite consort.

After lunch, visit the Ta dzong, an ancient watchtower, which has been, since 1967, the national museum of Bhutan then visit Rimpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The Dzong presently houses administrative offices. In the evening, visit the Drukgyel dzong, now in ruins was built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate the victory over the Tibetan invaders in1644; the dzong name's means indeed "victorious Druk". The Dzong was used as an administrative center until 1951 when a fire caused by butter lamp

destroyed it. Then visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred monasteries dating from the introduction of Buddhism in the 8th century and Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Paro

Bhutan often revered as the 'Land of the Peaceful Dragon' is still regarded as one of the last 'Shangrilas" in the Himalayan region because of its remoteness, it's spectacular mountain terrain, varied flora and fauna and its unique ancient Buddhist monasteries. It is in the relatively unexplored pockets of Asia which allows only limited number of discerning travellers to enter the country in order to protect its fragile environment and culture. This tour is an introductory of Bhutan and we have tried to cover as much as possible.
Itinerary

Day 01 Arrival in Paro/ Drive to Thimphu/Transfer to your hotel.

Day 02 Sightseeing tours all over Thimphu. Chorten, Library, so on.

Day 03 Drive to Gangtey through Dochula Pass. Visit Punakha Dzong.

Day 04 Visit Gangtey monastery. Drive to Bumthang.

Day 05 Sightseeing in Bumthang. 5 Lhakhangs, Swiss Cheese factory.

Day 06 Drive to Thimphu. Picnic lunch at Chendebji Chorten. Hotel.

Day 07 Morning transfer to Paro. Visit Drugyel Dzong and Museum.

Day 08 Early morning transfer to Paro Airport.
